Welcome to the site, which is intended to provide some resources you’ll need to enjoy birdwatching in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. Additionally, you’ll find a very little bit of information here that includes many of the surrounding counties in Northeast Florida, and occasionally I’ll write about birding adventures in other counties, states, or countries (but not very often).
Along the top navigation bar is “Seasonal Reports”, where you can find older writings I did while compiling the noteworthy observations for each season’s Field Observations report, which is published four times per year in the Florida Field Naturalist by the Florida Ornithological Society (FOS). I got away from doing these comprehensive summaries while I was doing my graduate thesis and never got back to them.
I’m the Chair and state compiler for the FOS’s Field Observations Committee and also cover the Northeast Florida region consisting of Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties. I rely on eBird, the listservs, word of mouth, and emailed observations to compile the reports, and welcome your contributions (note I’m not on any social media platform unless Flickr counts). Additionally, I’m the eBird reviewer for Duval, Nassau, and Volusia counties and can help with many common eBird questions – many of which usually have to do with the way the filters are set.
Thanks and enjoy!
